Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 8-10 medium medium apples, peeled and cored Mix sweet apples like Fujis or Honeycrisps with tart ones like Granny Smiths.
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Spices

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves

Additional Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup apple cider
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Preparation

  • Cut the apples into quarters and place them in a large pot.
  • Add the apple cider and cook over medium heat until the apples are soft and tender.

Mashing and Combining

  • Once softened, use a potato masher to mash the apples into a chunky consistency.
  • Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, spices, and lemon juice to the pot.
  • Stir to combine, letting the sweet and spicy aromas fill your kitchen.

Cooking

  • Reduce the heat to low and cook for about 1-2 hours, stirring frequently until the mixture thickens.

Jarring

  • Transfer the thickened mixture to clean jars, and let it cool completely before sealing.

Notes

This apple butter can be made ahead of time and stored in jars. It can be refrigerated for up to two weeks, or frozen for longer storage.
